What follows is a series of pictures.

I took the first group in September of 1992 from the boat to Ellis Island and the boat from Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty. The second group of pictures was taken in June of 2002 from the deck of the Carnival Cruise ship, Triumph.

When we passed the site of the World Trade Center, it was my first glimpse of the Ground Zero area since that fateful day in 2001. The captain announced that we would observe a moment of silence as we passed by, but it wasn't necessary. The 3000+ passengers lining the port side of the ship had already fallen silent. I had no idea that the sight of that empty space in the skyline would affect me so deeply.

On this and the next two pages, the top picture was taken in 1992; the bottom one in 2002. The black square indicates a relationship between the two images.
